ADMAT is the “Asociación De Mujeres Artisanas Tz’utujil” (or, in English, the “Association of Tz’utujil (Mayan) Women Artisans”, a cooperative of about 25 indigenous women weavers from San Juan La Laguna, Guatemala. They use handed-down knowledge of local plant dyes and traditional backstrap looms to create stunning, modern pieces.

GlobeWright has been working with the women of ADMAT for years to develop product lines showcasing their unique style for sale outside of Guatemala.

For the first time in their history as an organization, these amazingly knowledgeable and talented artisans are able to share their products with customers around the world. Before, they could only sell to those who travel to their beautiful lakeside town.

Together with the ladies of ADMAT, GlobeWright has designed and a line of hand-dyed wool yarn, showcasing the variety of natural dye materials in Guatemala. The result is Mayan Yarns:

  • 100% superwash Merino from USA farms and PA fiber mill

  • Fingering / sock weight

  • High twist; workhorse yarn

  • Dyed in Guatemala by members of ADMAT

  • Colors obtained from locally sourced plants and materials

  • Supports high-paying jobs for indigenous artisan women
